Seasonal Work Incentives Trial

Information for growers

If you are a grower in the horticultural industry who needs workers on a short term basis during peak times, you can access the Trial from 1 July 2017 to help meet your needs.

The Trial is being managed by jobactive, Transition to Work and Disability Employment Services providers.

They will work closely with you to ensure they know what you need and that you get the right person who is willing to work and understands the job to be done. Contact your nearest employment services provider to discuss your labour needs. Employment services providers are located across Australia, and their contact details are available on the Service Providers page of the jobactive website.

Information for seasonal workers

If you have been receiving Newstart or Youth Allowance (other) for a minimum of three months you may be able to earn up to $5,000 in seasonal work without reducing your payments.

If you take up work seasonal horticultural work, such as picking and packing fruit, nuts or other crops, under the Seasonal Work Incentives Trial, you can earn as much as $5,000 before your income support payments are reduced.

You could also receive up to $300 Living Away and Travel Allowance each year if you need to travel more than 120 km from your home to this work.

As well as earning some extra money, taking up work under the Trial could help you get a long term job in the horticultural industry.
