Tasmanian fruit growers recognised in national awards

Fruit Growers Tasmania | Wednesday, 23 June 2021, 9.00am

Two Tasmanian fruit growers have been recognised nationally for their leadership in community stewardship and business diversification.

Andrew Smith, Managing Director of R&R Smith, was recently awarded the E.E. Muir & Sons Community Stewardship award at the 2021 National Awards for Excellence presented throughout Hort Connections in Brisbane. R&R Smith were commended for their work on the first full home compostable packaging for its pre-packed fruit. The Community Stewardship award is specifically aimed at individuals or businesses that are proactive in developing safe storage in sustainable and innovative ways.

Andrew Terry, from Tasmanian Berries, last week won the award for Excellence in Diversification in the Kondinin Group and ABC Rural Australian Farmer of the Year Awards. The judges commented that he was a hands-on on his business, encouraging others to visit his enterprise and that he shared his knowledge through grower groups.

Congratulation to you both!
