Chief Executive Officer Announced for Fruit Growers Tasmania

An experienced candidate with a strong history across production horticulture has been announced as Fruit Growers Tasmania’s first Chief Executive Officer.

President Nic Hansen said the appointment of Stuart Burgess would become effective 1st September 2018.

“Stuart has been engaged with the Australian horticulture industry for over 30 years,” Nic Hansen said.

“With experience working across 15 different industries and over this time provided leadership, strategic advice, policy development, investment planning and evaluation for whole of industry and multi-industry outcomes, Stuart is a great candidate.”

“This will bring much needed management skills to our industry body, allowing the organisation to better support its members and the fruit industry of Tasmania.”

Stuart was chosen in a competitive selection process from a strong field of both national and international candidates. With impressive business acumen, he is known for his collaborative leadership style and for building high performance teams

“Stuart Burgess has a long connection with the State’s fruit sector and will be an excellent fit to the industry and the organisation,” said outgoing Business Development Manager Phil Pyke.

 Stuart said he was excited to take on this key leadership and advocacy role representing the thriving Tasmanian fruit sector under FGT.

“We have a strong collaborative culture, grounded in a long history of exceptional quality fruit production focused particularly on premium export markets”.

“I am determined to build on the great strides that have been developed by the many people who have gone before me”.

“It is exciting times for the organisation and industry as a whole, with opportunities to enhance the already strong reputation that it holds, both domestically and internationally’.

Under Stuart’s guidance and together with the existing team at the office, FGT will continue to move forward in key areas such as biosecurity, skills training, export facilitation, and other priority areas for Tasmania’s fruit industry.
