Cherries

The Australian cherry harvest is underway, with growers anticipating a large crop and good season. This season also marks the first full season that cherry growers on the Australian mainland can export to the Chinese mainland, and shipments of Australian fruit have already started to arrive in China by air-freight.

To mark the season launch, Sydney Markets at Flemington auctioned off the first box of cherries for $31k, with the money raised going to support the Save our Sons Duchenne Foundation.

Exporters of Australian cherries are also keen to take advantage of global shortages and high seasonal prices, after cold weather conditions have delayed harvest and reduced reduce export volumes from Chile.
