New national quad bike safety standards came into effect on 11 October 2021. The new standards are aimed at reducing Australia's high death toll with a record 24 Australians killed in quad bike accidents in 2020. Included in the standards is a requirement that all new and second hand general use quad bikes imported into Australia from 11 October must meet minimum stability guidelines and be fitted with rollover protection devices.
