Tasmania was once the Apple Isle, but now it is berries that are big business. The latest Tasmanian Agri Food Score Card report for 2020-2021 shows production across the state’s berry industry grew by 45 per cent.
Fruit Growers Tasmania was amongst some 420 exhibitors from 42 different countries which recently attended Asia Fruit Logistica in Bangkok. There were over 10,000 attendees during the event, consisting of importers, buyers, tech providers and exhibitors.
Fruit Growers Tasmania has launched Tasmanian Grown, a new export initiative that seeks to expand the global network and digital presence of local producers.
Earlier this year Summerfruit Australia Limited prepared and distributed information and a formal vote to growers and levy payers about proposed amendments to part of the stone fruit levy and charge. They formally submitted the proposal to amend the stone fruit levy and charge to the Minister and the proposal has now entered an objection period.
